What is ToonSchool?
ToonSchool is essentially an Art Class, but with all the Subject Matter relating to Comic Art. See About.
How can a Physical Discipline like Art work as an Online Class?
A Question I was faced with myself when Covid hit. The Solution came in the form of a Second Camera showing my Hands and Drawing Board making it easier to Explain and Demonstrate.
During the Sessions, the ToonSchoolers show their Work and Progress by means of their Webcams or by Sharing via WhatsApp.
Is ToonSchool Accredited?
No. And nor is it likely to be in my Lifetime. I've had the pleasure to witness the Immensity of the Accreditation Process from up close and prefer to spend ToonSchool's Administrative Time, Skill and Energy on History & Content-related Research.
Is it a Short Course or an Ongoing Program?
It is an Ongoing Program based on an Annual Syllabus. See Content. Sessions can be Joined at any time.
Can Adults Join?
Yes, of course, all Ages are entirely Welcome!
I actually wish more Adults would join. I know they're out there, the Drawing-since-I-was-14-and-the-Passion-is-still-Alive-ers.
The Thursday Evening Sessions are ideal for those Adults with favourable Commuting Schedules who would like to wind down after a long week with a bit of Drawing. See Fees & Roster.
I Wish to Learn How to Draw, but do I have to Draw Cartoons?
At ToonSchool, the Fundamentals of Drawing are presented in Cartoon Form as Cartooning is one the most Stylized and Simplified of all the Art Disciplines.
Every ToonSchooler, whether they prefer to Draw with Outlines, likes to work with Light and Shading, build Volume through Coloured Layers, etc., are encouraged to interpret the Information and apply it to their own Individual Style of Drawing.
Reference Material Presented also includes Examples from different Art Disciplines such as Cartooning, Illustration, Anime, Fantasy Art, Steampunk, Animation, etc., to Address and Inspire the diverse Drawing Styles of the ToonSchoolers.
What is a "TonSchool?" [ Referring to the Missing "o" in the Logo. ]
"TonSchool" is the perfect Example of the Term, Artistic or Creative Freedom.
During the Development of the Logo, the Word was too Long and Clumsy -Visually- so the one “o” was Removed and Replaced with the earliest Version of Kocora, the ToonSchool’s Mascot, with Kocora’s Head representing the Missing “o.”
