A: Drawing Project | Costume Design & Heritage Day
We address Costume Design, a Discipline that goes hand-in-hand with Character Creation. We also celebrate South Africa’s Heritage Day with a Drawing Project inspired by our beautiful Mzansi.
The Presentation consists of:
• Costume Design in Character Design.
• The Surprise Proudly South African Elements.
• A Drawing Project with Multiple Options and Interpretations.
• The Gallery of Artists that serves as Reference and Inspiration. It features Artworks from the Web showing how other Artists approached the same Subject Matter. All Visual References can be viewed on ToonSchool’s Pinterest Profile, @toonschoolsa.
B: Cartoon Theory | Breaking the 4th Wall 5.0
We finally conclude our Segment on the Storytelling Technique of Breaking the 4th Wall which occurs when Fictional Characters acknowledge their Fictionality. The Series consisted of the Origins of, Reasons for and Ways in Which the 4th Wall Can Be Broken and the Comic Book Characters and Cartoons known for Breaking the 4th Wall.
C: How To Draw | Human Anatomy | The Back
During the 3rd ToonSchool Term, we addressed the Male and Female Human Torso. During these Sessions, we realised that since many of our Characters like to turn their backs on the Viewer and stare purposefully into the Distance, there is a definite need to look at Drawing the Human Back. It seemed a perfect way to wrap up the How To Draw Segments for the 3rd Term.
D: Art Quote of the Day
We are still Pearling for Wisdom in one of Julia Cameron’s Publications, Letters to a Young Artist. Cameron is the Author of The Artist’s Way, a Book I can highly recommend to any Creative Individual on any part of their Creative Journey.
E: Show & Tell
The Quote of the Day concludes the Session. Those who wish can hang around for an Optional Show & Tell where ToonSchoolers get to share the Artwork they’ve Produced in Class or during the week. ToonSchoolers are free to leave after presenting their own Show & Tell.
